Terri / "clear white light"

Well, I like it, because I like to wonder what the artist was thinking as they (she* in this case) made it.

I have no idea..but it did provoke a lot of thought..as of light coming inbetween barriers...then, I was thinking..are those lichen on the rock type thing or is it paint..why is there some blue in there..is that for sky reasons...the title made me go along these lines too.

..that kind of thing...

Of course it's annoying that I can't wander around it, and have a poke...and see if those are christmas balls on the top...and that on the side looks like a limpet..and then there is a blue kerchief I think on the bottom..

..it certainly made me wonder about it!

I know that Terri enjoys peoples reactions to her boxes which is why I waffled some...hope no one minds! <thumbsup>

Thanks Terri! x

Terri / "1st We take Manhattan"

Isn't that a quote from Casablanca? "First we take Manhatten"? I may be remembering wrong, but the German says something like that, and Humphrey Bogart replies, "There are parts of Manhatten you shouldn't invade."

====

It is a line from a Leonard Cohen song of the same name...

They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'm guided by a signal in the heavens
I'm guided by this birthmark on my skin
I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you, I was one of those

Ah you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just
might win
You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I don't like your fashion business mister
And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby ...

And I thank you for those items that you sent me
The monkey and the plywood violin
I practiced every night, now I'm ready
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I am guided

Ah remember me, I used to live for music
Remember me, I brought your groceries in
Well it's Father's Day and everybody's wounded
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

Mother of God / "Terrorized"

A powerful response to a powerful film. I love the rich colors, and the sense of movement that comes from the swirls and the spikes.

Oooo, I love this, the colors are wonderful, and I like the juxtaposition of horizontal and vertical striped. I see their is a strong artistic streak in the family.

JEllenJ42 / "Execution"

Thanks for the kind comments. I was inspired to do this one by a scan of colored foils. The title is sort of a play on words, to "execute" a painting. The painting turned out quite different from any of my other work.

This one immediately reminded me of Goya's "The Shootings of May Third". I just comapred to see why, and I couldn't really tell you. But it still 'feels' like that, to me, though it's totally different. Must be something subtle in the color and movement.

I really like the way you have put the "warm" colours in the top corner, draws the eye, unusual, then leads you into the rest of the painting gently. Great texture.

Ged / "NYC"

The diagonal stripes work really well, the sense of isolated individuals in a metropolis comes across, great stuff!

Lovely.Really lovely. Amazing the depth of texture you can get using only black ink, well done!

What a great photo! So cool that the crosswalk is like the windows, and even cooler that the man is a window in the sign itself. All *sorts* of symbols one could draw from this one.

JEllenJ42 / "Lantana Rings"

Beautiful!
I love lantanas, even have a purple one I'm growing for az. This painting really gets the feel of them. I wish I could paint the essence of flowers like you have.
